Started en plein air, this piece was finished from memory and refrences. I know this place well, as it was a great house across the street from where I once lived. This tree's magnificant crown of gold gets more glorious as the years pass. I was so happy to capture it at it's peak color. Neighbors, and passers-by stopped to watch as I began painting. Seems we never tire of beauty such as this!
To add to the story...the house was taken down recently to make way for a housing development. Very sad to see yet another historic site gone off the scene. Yet another reason to paint these wonderful places while the are here!

Thanks for your kind remarks!! I loved doing this piece. The Revolutionary War house is now gone so I am so glad I caught it in time. This mighty oak must have been a sapling when the house was built.
